CLick here to regsiter for a 2012 Summer CSA Share
Holcomb Farm CSA 2012 CSA Summer Share Memberships You are invited to join the farm and receive fresh vegetables, berries, flowers, and herbs during the twenty week growing season from June through October. CSA members receive a large seasonal variety of produce each week. We grow approximately 3 dozen crops and about 200 crop varieties. We generally have 6-10 items each week. What members receive in any given week depends upon the season and the weather, but we can guarantee that it's fresh - usually picked within hours of distribution - and that it's grown without chemicals.
Share Price and Size $330 per share ($16.50/week)- approximately one share bag (roughly equivalent to a plastic grocery bag) of produce each week for 20 weeks plus access to the Pick-Your Own crops. One share is adequate for most households. If your household consumes a lot of veggies, you may want two shares.: Season 20 weeks from early June through October. The exact start date depends on the development of the spring crops and will be announced in May. Pick-up Days Tuesday 2-6, Thursday 3-7, Saturday 9-1. You may come once per calendar week anytime during those hours. You do NOT need to come at the same time each week. We only offer on-farm pickup in Granby. Pick-Your-Own Crops Most weeks of the season, we will have something for members to harvest in easily accessible fields. The PYO crops include strawberries, basil, cilantro, other herbs, cherry tomatoes, tomatillos, hot peppers, cut flowers, green beans, edamame soybeans, snap peas, and raspberries. You may come for the Pick-Your-Own crops anytime during daylight hours. Some members choose to come to pick their flowers or other crops at a different time if it's raining when they come for their share or just prefer to come when it's quieter. We have signage outside the barn and in the fields announcing what's ready to pick and where it is. What's in a share? Your weekly share will usually consist of 6-10 items each week. Most weeks, you may select the items you prefer from the items available up to the amount that will fit in your share bag. Items in short supply may be individually limited. What we grow "Staple" crops that we try to have a consistent supply of in their season include lettuce, summer squash and zucchini, cucumbers, watermelon, carrots, beets, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, onions, winter squash, and a variety of cooking greens. Other crops that we grow in lesser amounts to round out the shares include fennel, brussels sprouts, leeks, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, rutabaga, kohlrabi, arugula, parsnips, radishes, and sweet potatoes. Farm Store We sell in our farm shop on a cash basis our own eggs and pork from animals raised on organic grain, a few products from other local farms including apples, peaches, grass fed beef, honey, maple syrup, goat cheese, and more. Online Farm Store During the 2011-12 winter months, we are operating an online farm store open to members and non-members alike. Click here for more information. Do I have to Work on the Farm? No. We do not require members to work on the farm but we do offer a few member work days each season where it's great to get many hands together to accomplish a big harvest or other task on the farm. What's the Risk? The spirit of Community Supported Agriculture is that eaters and farmers work together to contribute to a resilient and healthy local food system. The understanding is that CSA members provide consistent support to the farm, and the farmers do our best to provide a plentiful, consistent, and varied supply of farm fresh produce. Some weeks are leaner than others (particularly early in the season) and rarely there is a confluence of factors that really puts a hole in the flow of produce. You can cancel your share anytime for a prorated refund. Growing Methods Each year, we sign the Northeast Organic Farming Association's Farmer's Pledge (ctnofa.org) verifying that we do not use synthetic chemicals in our farming and that we employ management methods that protect and build the soil, provide a good environment for our workers, and have little impact on the surrounding ecology. We are dedicated to providing outstanding nutrition through our farming. More information on our growing methods. Workshares Work in the fields in exchange for a CSA share. Help with greenhouse seeding, transplanting, weeding, and harvesting. Requires a 40 hour commitment over the course of the season. Must be available for 7am-Noon shifts during the week. We are very selective about who we choose for workshares since we depend on them the way we depend on our regular paid staff. For more information, email susan@holcombfarmcsa.org |
